This is an antique stoneware or earthenware crock originally used for either a chamber pot or a spittoon/cuspidor.
The piece is made of thick crockery and measures 5 inches and 6 inches in diameter at the base. It is 4 and 1/2 inches in diameter at the mouth.
There is crazing on the interior of the piece commensurate with age and what look like nicks on the banded front rim or seam are actually misses in the glaze.
There is a nick in the underside foot rim but it cannot be seen from the outside.
